Flower Necklace
May 23, 2009
In Hawaii, people like to make a flower necklace called a leigh. You can wear this craft, you can make a dazzling flower necklace, too.
Here is what you’ll need to make a flower necklace:
Flowers with stems (flowers like roses)
To make a flower necklace, the first thing you’ll need to do is pick a lot of wild flowers and you’ll want them to have long stems, such as daisies. (Be careful if you use dandelions, because the same yellow color that rubs off on your hands or chin can create a big mess.)
Here’s how to chain them together:
Take two flower stems at right angles. Loop the vertical stem around the horizontal one so it ends up alongside the horizontal stem.
Next lay a third stem at right angles to the two horizontal stems. Loop it around both horizontal stems. Next you’ll adding stems this way until your lei is the length that suits you. Tie the last stem to the first flower to make a rounded circle. Aloha!
You can also make a flower necklace from cloth. Of course the type of cloth that you use will make a difference in the appearance. A cloth flower necklace is a little more difficult because first you must roll the cloth in the shape of your desired.
Now we can talk about the kind of cloth for your flower necklace. You’ll need to find the color and texture that you like. Colors vary a lot. Just go to a fabric store and you’ll see for yourself.
Texture of the fabric is also varied a lot. You can choose from silk, braided, corded, elastic, labels, lanyards, and many many more for your flower necklace.
