Pentax K-7 Price and Review

June 21, 2009

The Pentax brand brings to mind a lot of memories for many photographers, enthusiasts or semi-pro, who began with a K1000, KM, Spotmatic, or ME Super. Pentax’s position in the market is not as good as it was during the prime of 35mm film. But Pentax remains popular to many photographers.

Now, we have the Pentax K-7, the company’s newest enthusiast/semi-pro level DSLR. This attractive DSLR camera’s pared down and sleek elegance is a replacement for the Pentax K20D’s rather plump utilitarianism. The Pentax K-7 price is reasonable at $1,299.95.

Below is our Pentax K-7 review.

A lot of photographers, I bet, will include this latest baby from Pentax in their wish list. Here are some of the highlights of this DSLR: 720p/1080i HD video recording, smaller steel/magnesium alloy body, updated sensor with four-channel readout, and 3-inch VGA (920,000 dot) LCD screen.

The Pentax K-7 also sports an improved viewfinder (less magnified but greater coverage) and a shutter mechanism with 1/8000th speed. The camera also features faster continuous shooting of up to 5.3 fps as well as AF illumination lamp. It also features new dust removal system and a 77 segment exposure metering sensor.

These are just the bigger features; their implications are almost as important as the evident effects of these changes. The camera now allows faster frame rates and videos. As well, the reworked, 4-channel sensor generates less noise compared to the version employed in the Pentax K20D.

Moreover, the Pentax K-7 has many more subtle upgrades and additions that reveal just how fundamental a change the camera is from its predecessors. It has new dedicated ISO button, 3-shot built-in HDR capture, and chromatic and distortion aberration correction for DFA and DA lenses that are also found in RAW conversion. It is a great idea to buy Pentax K-7.

The Pentax K-7 also features an adjustable shadow correction and dynamic range highlight. Regarding composition adjustment, the Pentax K-7 utilizes the SR system to reposition the sensor and to tweak the composition. In general, Pentax K-7 DSLR camera is a great investment.
